Brill no-bake brownies

Sunday’s we’re made for cooking…apparently! I’m still working on the full meat, veg and all the (healthy!) trimmings but one of the reasons I love cooking on Sundays is the knowledge that no matter what the coming week throws at me I’ll have some treats to look forward to! Speaking of treats today I made one of my all-time favourites, no-bake brownie bites. After finding the original recipe via the brilliant ‘Detoxinista’ blog (http://detoxinista.com/2014/06/raw-brownie-bites-vegan-paleo/) I’ve become a teeny bit obsessed with them! 10+ batches later and I’ve added a couple of my own additions to the recipe but whichever way … Continue reading Brill no-bake brownies

Healthy banana, oat and chocolate cookies

MY first recipe on the blog – very excited! It’s a really simple one too, perfect for when you need a snack to grab on the go – and all you need to make it is a bowl, a spoon and a muffin tin 🙂 (oh, and a banana, cocoa powder and some oats). For my version I also added vanilla essence, cinnamon and ‘chia seeds’ (flaxseed in the UK) but that’s just the start of the fun – coconut flakes, ground ginger, any kind of nut, raisins, dates, berries – there is no end to what can be added … Continue reading Healthy banana, oat and chocolate cookies

Some post-hangover resolution? Finding my ‘baggy boyfriend jeans’ had started resembling leggings? The realisation I was about to reach 30 and had never done a proper push-up?! (Possibly all three….except that last one…no sane person ever thought that!) For me the healthy start came about thanks to a £1 water barrel, Cameron Diaz and a random app download…. Like everyone I’d heard … Continue reading One app, one bucket, one celebrity – the healthiness starts here…

Hiya, Hello, Howdy…

HI everyone and welcome to ‘Healthy up North’… This is my blog, a track of my journey from slightly (ok, very!) unhealthy to, well, much more healthy – it doesn’t get more complicated than that 🙂 Simple is good because as I’ve found out healthy living can be an incredibly complicated task! I think I’ve asked every awkward question possible along my way, from “Where do you find your core?” in Pilates class to “Are non-cook oats different to porridge ones…and are they different to quick cook ones?” to the bemused man in Tesco. As you’ve probably guessed there’s still … Continue reading Hiya, Hello, Howdy…
